Activist Search Weapon Launched

Look to the Left (LTTL) is a new search facility designed to help you navigate the massive volume of information continuously being published by lefty web sites. It is geared towards helping activists search the web more effectively by eliminating the corporate clutter.
Try searching http://looktotheleft.org for "revolution" and then try the same search at http://google.com/search?q=revolution
Very different results.
A list of the hundreds of web sites LTTL currently searches is available at http://looktotheleft.org/link_list. You can quickly and easily add sites to the searchable list yourself. The list is growing as more people use LTTL and currently includes such sites as:
- A-infos
- Alternet
- Counter Punch
- Democracy Now!
- Independent Media Center (including all their sub-domains)
- Infoshop
- Mostly Water
- Resist! (including all their sub-domains)
- ZNet
- Many, many more!
You can also add the LTTL search box easily to your own site making an LTTL search available to your readers without ever leaving your site. An example can be seen at http://mostlywater.org. The code can be customized to fit your needs.

LTTL takes advantage of Google's Custom Search Engines but is in no way associated with Google and does not endorse Google. In fact LTTL is opposed to the way Google gathers and uses information about you for marketing purposes etc. However, since there is no other technology in place to provide this service at this time, LTTL may serve as a valuable tool in organizing against those corporations and governments which continue to work against our freedoms.
See http://www.google-watch.org for more information about Google.

It's crap.
It's crap.
Just because Google's motto is dont be evil does not mean they are not evil. Way to increase their profits, guys. Why doesnt someone create a real search engine instead of using the same stupid google custom search scam. Why do we keep falling into the same capitalist traps?

the reality is...
i understand your frustration. i had mixed feeling about heading down this path. but for people who are already using google to search for information, this tool simply gives them a better set of results. google will continue to index every site in LTTL's index regardless of whether LTTL exists or not.
LTTL doesn't claim that Google ins't evil. the article clearly states that LTTL doesn't support Google and if a better search tool becomes available, i'll be the first to redirect to it.
people can also try http://www.scroogle.org/cgi-bin/scraper.htm which searches Google anonymously but leaves in the corporate clutter which is the point of LTTL.
it isn't easy to just create a search engine. there are hundreds of bright people working for google everyday. and they have a lot of resources - hardware and bandwidth - that we just don't have access to.
thanks
Point taken. And as a side note, thanks for not returning my anger and frustration. I rant sometimes online and often the rebuttals I get can be ruder than my rants...

Add LTTL as a Search Engine (plugin) to Firefox 2.x/IE7
Hi,
To make Looktotheleft.org a Search Engine in the top-right box in Firefox 2.x (or newer)
Here's some text you can copy *...
* I decided not to paste the actual text, as the comment handler of mostlywater thinks it's special code, and so the text does not display properly.
Here is a useful link instead, to the tool I used to generate the Search Engine, and all the information for LTTL filled out. All you have to do is click on the link below, then click on "OpenSearch Plug-in Look To The Left". Firefox prompts you auto-magically if you would like to add LTTL as a search engine.
http://ready.to/search/en/?sna=Look+To+The+Left&prf=http%3A%...
LTTL has already been notified to put a link on their main page so other web-surfers benefit from having an easy-to-access alternative to the google search content and other mainstream sources.
super cool
thanks for that! i'll post it to LTTL when i get time.
Add Scroogle
To add Scroogle [ as mentioned by a previous poster ], and use the more secure SSL features of Scroogle - encrypting the data between your browser and the scroogle engine, use the following link:
