AL RAINE APPLIES FOR EXTENSION OF RESORT CERTIFICATION
This is not a decision for John Bones or any other Environmental Assessment Director to make. This is not a decision as St'at'imc people to make. This land is not for us to be rolling dice on and handing out to whoever offers us a few million dollars. This land belongs to the children now and upcoming in the St'at'imc Nation. This Land belongs to the animals that live, eat and seek shelter every day of their lives. This Land has been given to us by the Creator for nourishing our bodies and spirits and in turn we must protect it. It is our sole responsibility as St'at'imc people to stop any destruction or further intrusion on our homeland for the sake of our children's safety and well being.
We teach our children where to pick the berries and medicine, then teach them how to preserve them for harsh weather and long journeys. We teach them how to catch the fish and hunt the deer but only as we need them. We teach them to respect the clean water and respect the forests because they provide us with shelter and warmth. This is our Way of life, year in and year out. It is not a fantasy to read about in a book.
I will teach my children that foreigners with greedy intentions have no place in our territory. I will allow them to see the destruction done to Skwelkwekwelt (Sun Peaks) and teach them that this is not respecting the land, animals or water. They will learn that we are blessed as St'at'imc to have this responsibility of protecting our homeland. Those who fought before us gave up their lives so we can enjoy the food and water. I will instill this in my children, they will be rich in health not skis and condos.
