Anti-Mining Protests Escalate in Peru; Four Killed after Police Violence

<div class='node-body'><p>On Wednesday, Peru&rsquo;s government declared a state of emergency, banning protests and freedom of assembly in the country, following protests over Peru&#39;s biggest gold mining project, <em>Reuters</em> <a href="http://news.yahoo.com/peru-protest-against-newmont-leaves-one-dead-leader-024422260.html;_ylt=A2KLOzJvsPVPLHgAA33QtDMD" target="_blank">reports</a>.</p>
