Burma's Secret March Offensive
With a new highway completed that runs through Papun District and 60 new military encampments in the northern region of Karen State[,] [f]resh well equipped troops from Burma’s Military Operations Command Units 4 and 16 launched a March offensive against 8 Karen villages. Villagers ran for the safety of the jungle as mortars rained down on their huts, livestock and inhabitance. With orders to shoot, soldiers shot randomly while Karen villagers fled into the jungle.
Once the troops entered the village they destroyed absolutely everything including food stuffs, livestock and homes. Pillars of smoke decorated the jungle skies while the flames consumed the livelihoods and communities of 2,100 Karen villagers. With new supply roads and bases in place it would appear the Military has dug themselves in for the duration or until all the ethnic Burmese people are dispatched in a timely fashion.
With logistical concerns out of the way this operation has been a resounding success for the military. Capable of re-supplying in a matter of hours rather than days has made a big difference in how the military assaults the villages. With an almost endless supply of mortars they can fire on a community continuously inflicting total devastation. Fresh troops are always available since there is a new highway that expedites any military request.
Modern weaponry from China, India and the rest of the world has made the Burmese Army much more efficient in the manner they eliminate unwanted ethnic minorities. Villagers trying to escape in the cloak of darkness need not worry fore it is futile. The world of technology has provided the junta with plenty of night vision and sensing devices to further quell Karen and other tribal people. Armed with nothing more then the cloths on their backs and a child under the arm, they are a sporting prey in the dark.
Artillery and other heavy war machines can easily be moved into position when routing villagers and destroying their communities. According to the Free Burma Rangers (FBR) there are well over 30,000 homeless or Internally Displaced People (IDP) in the jungles of Northern Karen State at this time. They are living in deplorable conditions living in make shift shelters and keeping one step ahead of government forces. It is only a matter of time before the Karen’s are completely eliminated and all heir villages burned to the ground. Shwe’s exercise in ethnic cleansing is a text book example Hitlarian Criminality. The motto “Never Again” rose from the ashes of genocide when the world discovered the totality of Hitler’s regime. 6 million people were exterminated while the world courted Hitler. Ironically eugenics was already in full swing in Germany during the 1936 Olympic Games. It was no secret Jews were being displaced in Europe, there is no question. Economics was the priority of the day while humanity was ignored. Yup, the Holocaust was an “Internal Problem” back then. The list of investors in Germany was equally as scandalous as the list of Investors in Burma today.
