Socialism, nationalism, Islam ... the ideological borders are porous at times in the
Middle East. In the 1970s, the Lebanese-Palestinian Maoists have tried an original
synthesis, before rallying in the Iranian Revolution. ---- The pro-Chinese groups of the
1970s often had a path sometimes surprising. But the Maoists in the Middle East has an
interest apart from anecdotal, as it is the prototype of what could be the rallying
revolutionary militants of political Islam in the 1980s. In the December 2008 issue of
Cahiers de l'Institut Religioscope, Nicolas Dot-Pouillard unearths and analyzes this
