Last week the Al Nusra Front, the military backbone of the US-sponsored Syrian opposition, openly swore its loyalty to Al Qaeda...“The sons of Al Nusra Front pledge allegiance to Sheikh Ayman al-Zawahiri”...The statement also indicated that the Syrian terrorist group would merge with Al Qaeda in Iraq, from which Al Nusra has received personnel and training.

The US and Jordanian militaries have stepped up a secret program to train thousands of armed fighters to send into Syria with the apparent aim of carving out a buffer zone in the south of the country...Washington has ordered the training of some 3,000 officers for the so-called Syrian rebels to be completed sooner than originally planned. The aim is to finish the training program by the end of this month to exploit advances made by anti-government militias along Syria’s 230-mile border with Jordan.
Ousting Assad was planned years ago. At issue is replacing him with a pro-Western puppet.

After US President Barack Obama’s so-called “peace” trip to Israel last week, on the tenth anniversary of the US invasion of Iraq, Washington is escalating its bloody intervention in the Middle East...After threatening Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his main ally, oil-rich Iran, in a speech in Jerusalem, Obama is intensifying the US proxy war against Syria.

In a speech delivered in Jerusalem on Thursday, US President Barack Obama identified US interests unconditionally with Israel while reiterating war threats against both Syria and Iran...Both the Israeli press and Palestinian analysts described Obama’s address...as the most enthusiastic embrace of the ideology of Zionism by any president in US history. One Israeli newspaper urged Obama to emigrate to Israel and run for office.

The top US commander in Europe told a Senate hearing Tuesday that the US military and NATO are drawing up plans for direct military intervention in Syria...[Adm. James] Stavridis told the panel that “the option of assisting the opposition forces in Syria in ways that would break the deadlock are being actively explored by NATO members...”
Syria is Washington's war. It was planned years ago. At issue is regime change. America tolerates no independent governments. It wants pro-Western puppet ones replacing them.
They're not rebels. They're Western-recruited hired guns. They're heavily armed, trained, funded and directed. They're proxy US assassins. They're death squads. They're cold-blooded killers. They're imported from abroad.

The injection of Jabhat al-Nusra fighters and other proto-jihadis has fouled the secular nature of the battle so badly that Assad’s original claims that al-Qa’ida was the regime’s enemy is beginning to look frighteningly true. There have been battles between the Free Syrian Army and al-Nusra and between al-Nusra’s own commandos.

Though President Obama last year rejected a proposal from the State Department, Pentagon, and CIA to directly arm Syrian rebel fighters, his administration is once again edging closer to directly intervening in the Syrian war...“The Obama administration is moving toward a major policy shift on Syria that could provide the rebels with equipment such as body armor, armored vehicles and possible military training...”

I had the honor of conducting this conversation with a Syrian in Syria. Aref Hamdoush has many interesting things to say about Syria, the US, and the world.
Western-recruited death squads ravage Syria. They've done so for two years. They're imported from abroad. Rules of engagement include mass murder, torture, and other atrocities.

Amid a wave of attacks on Syrian government facilities in Damascus yesterday, a massive car bomb hit a security checkpoint in the central Damascus neighborhood of Mazraa. It killed at least 53 people and wounded 235...This is the latest in a series of terrorist atrocities against Syrian civilian or government targets, many of which have been openly claimed by US-backed armed opposition groups and hailed in the US media as victories in Washington’s proxy war to oust Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Now that the dust has settled — literally and figuratively — from Israel’s Jan. 29 air attack on Syria, the question is, why? According to Tel Aviv, the bombing was aimed at preventing the transfer of sophisticated Russian SA-17 anti-[air]craft missiles to Hezbollah in Southern Lebanon, which one former Israeli military intelligence officer said would be “a game-changer.” But there are major problems with that story.

The humanitarian crisis in Syria is an indictment of the United States, Britain and the other major powers that have deliberately stoked the sectarian civil war, and given support to a rag-tag opposition, dominated by reactionary Islamist tendencies, in a bid to oust the Assad regime and install a pliant puppet government. The US and its allies cynically exploit the social disaster they have helped create, in order to intensify the push to remove Assad.
