July 7 (Bloomberg) -- Total SA, Europe’s second-biggest oil producer, will buy UTS Energy Corp. for C$1.5 billion ($1.4 billion) in cash and shares in a new company to boost its output from Canadian oil sands.

DETROIT, July 9 (UPI) -- A pipeline carrying oil from tar sands in Canada to markets in the United States is an environmentally risky project, protesters in Michigan said.
Commercial deliveries of crude oil to the U.S. Midwest from the Keystone pipeline from Canada started during the last week of June.
Today (10 July) a group of anarchists stages a protest at the South African embassy in
Moscow. Their protest raised a number of issues related to the World Cup and, also, the
repression of Abahlali baseMjondolo. The World Cup finishes on Sunday and the trial of 12
residents of the Kennedy Road settlement begins on Monday.
On March 4th, campuses across the country erupted in protest as faculty, campus workers,
and students joined together to say NO to the attacks on education. On that day, over
twenty chapters of Students for a Democratic Society protested on their campuses. At the
University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee, protesters were met with tear gas and police violence.
On June 22-26, in Detroit, MI, SDS will join thousands of organizers and activists at the
U.S. Social Forum to share our perspectives and strategies for social and economic
justice. Members of SDS are traveling from across the country to discuss our experiences
in building the student movement over the last four years.
