SUPPORT NATIVE YOUTH MOVEMENT

Kanahus Pellkey (Amanda Soper) is a Secwepemc & Ktnuxa from the interior of British Columbia, Canada. Kanahus Pellkey is Warrior and Spokesperson for the Native Youth Movement. She is a community organizer, and has worked with many Indigenous Nations throughout Turtle Island. In 2001 Kanahus Pelkey and other Secwpmec Youth formed the Secwepmec Native Youth Movement (NYM). Their mission to Defend their Territory and Protect the clean water, food, and Land in which her People still depend on for Survival. Kanahus and her People have been battling with the governments of BC and Canada against their illegal occupation and theft of Secwepemc Lands and been fighting agaist illegal development of Sun Peaks ski-resort, a massive resort destroying Secwepmec hunting, food and medicine gathering Mountains. This Stance resulted in over 70 arrests of NYM Warriors and Traditional Secwepmec People including elders nearly 80 years old.

As an Organizer and Spokesperson she has been targeted and
assulted by the RCMP. The governments police force, the RCMP, eventually captured Kanahus in 2003 for her outspoken stance. She was refused bail even though she was breast feeding her 4 month old son. The Canadian Government held her for Ransom away from her child because of her beliefs and defence of their land and ways of life. Upon her release she maintained her stance and continues to stand strong against oppressive Canadian control forced upon her Peoples. All charges have since been dropped against her and she can now travel freely. We are asking all those that support NYM and the work that Kanahus Pellkey is a part of to contribute to her travel costs to Borike, Taino Territory to meet with the Taino Peoples. The following is a formal invitation
letter from a grassroots Taino Peoples organization to Kanahus Pellkey.

Dear Kanahus Pellkey

RE: OFFICIAL INVITATION TO KANAHUS PELLKEY TO ATTEND CULTURAL EXCHANGE IN BORIKE (PUERTO RICO)

Please accept this letter as an official letter of invitation to attend a gathering and cultural exchange in the central mountain ranges of the island of Borike (Puerto Rico), at the Kaney Farm bordered by the Toro Negro Forest. The Reyes Ocasio Family invites you to share and exchange traditional
knowledge between our Nations and will be honored to host you in our home. We continue to grow our organic traditional staple root crops such as yuca, batata, yautia, ñames, and lerenes and beans, corn and squash. Bananas, oranges and coffee continue to thrive on this land. We would like
this to be the start of reviving our traditional trade routes between the Caribbean and the Indigenous Nations in the North.
We are also pleased to share and exchange medicinal knowledge and herbal and natural healing ways with you. The healing ways and natural remedies made here include herbal alcohol rubs, clay poultices, salves, tinctures, essential oils and massages. Whenever possible, the herbs and clay used
are harvested from the land here. As humble Indian farmers we have no source of funding for your travel and
we are hoping organizations or individuals can help you get here. We look forward to see you and share with you and your Nation.

Yours Sincerely,
El Caney del Quinto Mundo

We are looking for anyone who can donate to help Kanahus with her plane ticket and transportaion costs; we are looking to raise $1000 CAN.
