Homemade Bomb Found at Recruiting Office
08/11/2006
Authorities discovered a homemade bomb at the Army-Air Force recruiting office in Webster Groves early Thursday morning.
St. Louis County police's arson and explosives unit was called to the scene at 7930 Big Bend Boulevard before 7 a.m. to take control of the device and make it safe. The improvised device did not explode or cause any damage, police said.
The St. Louis office of the FBI took over the investigation along with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Authorities would not say whether the device was found inside the building, in a vehicle or in the parking lot. Investigators declined to release any more information.
Douglas Smith of the Army Recruiting Command said this was the first incident of its kind at a St. Louis office.
