Police violence is not an epidemic, not a new disease ravaging an otherwise healthy body politic. Police violence is a metastasized form of the cancer that has been present in this political order since it was in the colonial womb. Institutionalized racial violence is a cancerous mutation built into the very nature of “American Democracy” – the primary condition that has kept it forever fragmented, hypocritical, and lying to itself with one eye closed so as not to see its own behavior – a condition which has consistently fueled this cycle of violence for hundreds of years.

The Halifax International Security Forum was recently held at the Westin hotel for three days. On the second day, 100-200 protestors stood outside the hotel in solidarity with Palestine, Syria and Iran while denouncing Israel’s behaviour and boldly calling for Canada to exit NATO.

We’ve seen charred bodies of dead and injured children pouring in to Al Shifa hospital of Gaza City and the other depleted hospitals around the Gaza Strip. There have been at least 50 air strikes all over the Gaza Strip so far. Deafening explosions shook us all as bombs landed close to us in the streets near the Universities -- the windows of my house were broken as a result of Israeli bombing.
