"Ridiculous Money"
On March 17, 2009, Mr. George Bush will visit Calgary - brought here by the local Chamber of Commerce and a big law firm connected to big oil - Bennett Jones. For $400 dollars a plate, Mr Bush will speak on his life and times on this first stop on an international speaking tour, for which Mr. Bush hopes, in his own words, to make "ridiculous money".

The bloody and brutal empire Mr. Bush headed was all about making "ridiculous money." For this he led it into what Vice President Dick Cheney called "the dark side". The wars of terror Bush instigated, in Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere were like nothing seen before in human history. In human terms the costs are immense, immeasurable and still rising. Some made "ridiculous money". Some paid dearly.

Mr. Bush is now a class A unindicted, international war criminal. In his book 'George W Bush War Criminal?', a leading authority, Dr. Michael Haas, indentifies 269 war crimes, including systematic violations of the Geneva and Hague Conventions. Other eminent jurists, professional legal organizations and human rights monitors, have also declared Bush prosecutable for war crimes.

Canada's law compels it to do two things in dealing with Bush - bar his entry or arrest and prosecute him. The third option is [to] prevent that process from working. This option seems to be what Canada has chosen here.
The Ministers of Immigration and Justice are particularly at item. They must give the word for it to work and that word has not been given. Opposition leaders have been similarly unhelpful. Jack Layton's office baldly stated they would entertain no correspondence on the issue.
Serious questions must also be asked of the legal and human rights establishments and large well funded organizations and NGOs that are nowhere to be found now. Where are Canada's intelligentsia, academics and artists in this struggle? It is time they broke their silence and came down from their Ivory towers to this Bush in Calgary battleground. Their brains, their hearts, their voices and their courage are needed now. Spread the word widely and quickly. We must grow our power and catch a monster.
Most Canadians and the rest of the world are unaware Bush is even coming here, let alone Canada's obligations under law, to arrest or bar him.
The same media that sold and promoted President George Bush's wars of terror, now suppress the story of his visit and vulnerabilities. A virtual dome of silence has descended. Once again alternative media and alternative political formations are left this task without benefit of the resources that corporate media's "ridiculous money" buys.
The world will be watching Calgary and Canadians on March 17. They will watch to see what Canada does with this war criminal and visiting monster.
If it is all speech making, shoe-throwing and "mock" trials, we will have failed an opportunity and duty to all of Bush's many dead and dying. We will have lost, once again, without even trying. Bush will waltz away back across the border with his "ridiculous money" and we will pretend we did all we could then leave the task to those made of stronger stuff.
He should not pass.
Bar or Arrest George Bush in Calgary!
History and the world will be watching.
In the days remaining those who can must apply maximum pressure to the obstacles: Action and attention.
