Summer 2008 - What are you doing for environmental justice?

The Sierra Youth Coalition is organizing another amazing political activism bike trip. After the Climate Change Caravan across Canada in 2001, the Deconstructing Dinner Caravan to Mexico for the WTO summit in 2003, and the To The Tar Sands caravan last year, which pedaled across Alberta to gather the stories of the communities in Alberta and to advocate for a greener economy, SYC is ready for its next trip.

FILL A WATER BOTTLE FULL OF POLLUTED WATER IN THE ATHABASCA RIVER AND HAND-DELIVER IT TO THE OIL EXECUTIVE OF YOUR CHOICE IN CALGARY!

RETURN TO THE TAR SANDS! Join us for the 2008 bike trip to raise awareness on this most pressing issue! The tar sands are Canada's fastest growing source of greenhouse gas emissions, and at the current speed of development, could quickly become Canada's greatest contributor to climate change. It is also degrading Alberta's natural heritage with toxins and clear-cutting, and posing serious health threats to communities in the region.

We will meet up in Edmonton on August 11th 2008 for pre-departure training and workshops (mandatory). The team will start the trip at Fort McMurray five days later and head to Calgary, approximately 1000 kilometers away. Arrival in Calgary is planned for September 3rd.

Let's put the pedal to the wheel! Canada must meet and surpass the reduction targets established under the Kyoto Protocol, and then some!

Été 2008 – Que ferez vous pour la justice environnementale?

La Coalition jeunesse Sierra organise une ambitieuse manifestation à vélo. Après le Climate Change Caravan qui traversa le Canada en 2001, le Deconstructing Dinner Caravan qui se rendit au Mexique pour le sommet de l'OMC en 2003, et la première expédition dans les sables bitumineux en 2007 pour apprendre de l'expérience des communautés affectées et pour promouvoir l'idée d'une économie verte aux instances gouvernement, voici notre prochain voyage :

CHAQUE CYCLISTE DE L'ÉQUIPE REMPLIRA UNE BOUTEILLE D'EAU POLLUÉE DE LA RIVIÈRE ATHABASCA ET LA TRANSPORTERA JUSQU'À CALGARY AFIN DE L'OFFRIR À UN EXÉCUTIF DE L'INDUSTRIE DU PÉTROLE DE SON CHOIX.

Joignez-nous dans cette expédition de conscientisation et d'apprentissage. Les sables bitumineux sont la source de gaz à effet de serre en plus grande croissance au Canada. À cette vitesse, ce mégaprojet pourrait devenir le pire contributeur aux changements climatiques au Canada. Du plus son impacte sur l'héritage naturel de l'Alberta est terrible - c'est la coupe à blanc et l'injection de toxines dans les écosystèmes. Les risques pour la santé des personnes vivant dans ces régions sont aussi très inquietants.

Nous nous rencontrerons à Edmonton le 11 août 2008 pour l'entraînement et les ateliers pré-départ (obligatoire). Cinq jours plus tard, l'équipe commencera le voyage à Fort McMurray en direction Calgary – 1000 kilomètres de là. L'Arrivée à Calgary est prévue pour le 3 Septembre.

C'est le temps de pédaler! Le Canada doit atteindre les cibles de réduction établies sous Kyoto, et encore plus.
