Spain Targets Bush War Crimes: Why Won't Canada?
As Mohawk activist Splitting-the-Sky prepares to face charges arising out of his attempted citizen's arrest of George W Bush in Calgary on March 17, [there] comes news that Spain has decided to proceed against the Bush administration for war crimes.
Although official Canada seems quite comfortable with the visits of 'credible' war criminal suspects such as Bush or Condi Rice who will speak at the University of Calgary May 13, Spain will now open formal criminal inquiries targeting officials in the Bush administration.
The Spanish criminal court can now seek the arrest of any of the targets if they travel to Spain or countries that have extradition relationships with Spain. Perhaps this will spur Canada to reconsider its shameful silence on this vital issue.
