Police shot a young woman to death "assassination style" as she sat in her car, amid "widespread and systemic corruption" in the undercover drug force, the woman's parents claim in court...Melissa Kennedy and Frederick Willard, parents of the late Danielle Willard, sued West Valley City, its police Officers Shaun Cowley and Kevin Salmon, Lt. John Coyle, Police Chief Thayle "Buzz" Nielsen, and 10 Doe officers, in Federal Court.
A provincial investigation found the former Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre prisoner was handcuffed, shackled and stomped by jail guards in 2010. Ontario ombudsman André Marin made the assault central to the report he released Tuesday criticizing the Ottawa jail and the province’s corrections system as a whole.

A man whose shoulder was broken during a G20 protest in Toronto almost three years ago says he was hit from behind by what felt like a riot shield while he was taking a picture of police horses...Dorian Barton is testifying at the trial of Const. Glenn Weddell, the first Toronto police officer to go to trial on criminal charges stemming from the G20 weekend in June 2010. Weddell is charged with assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.

...Ford has to be seen as having come to symbolize the basic unfairness of our society. If there has ever been a more obvious personification in the Canadian context of the reality that rich white men can get away with actions and behaviour that absolutely no one else would be able to, I am not aware of it. Following the death of father of four, David Sal Silva last week, his family’s attorneys are calling for police to release bystander video evidence that reportedly shows California Highway Patrol officers brutally beating the 33-year-old. A video from a surveillance camera...has been released and shows the man repeatedly struck with a baton.

A mother is suing the New York Police Department (NYPD) over what she says was an instance of police brutality where cops pepper-sprayed her three little children...Taylor says that police officers pepper sprayed her three children, who are 5-months old and 2 and 4 years old. She claims that as she was on her way to board a Manhattan-bound L Train, officers stopped her and her husband and accused them of trying to skip a fare.
