SHAC stands for Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty. The loosely-organized group was set up in 1999 with the sole aim of closing down Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS). Located in the UK and USA, HLS is the second largest contract testing lab in the world. HLS are infamous for torturing and killing 500 animals a day in tests for products such as weedkiller, food colourings and drugs. They have been exposed 6 times for disgusting animal cruelty and rule-breaking.
Once again academics expose themselves as apologists for torturing our relatives; primates. Report backs use of monkeys in research
The IWW union hall in North Portland was filled to capacity at the Liberating Dissent Anti-Green Scare event on December 9 as Grand Jury resister Jeff Hogg shared his six month ordeal as a Green Scare political prisoner.
Until his release from the Josephine County Jail on November 11 of this year, Jeff found himself caught in the snare of the government war on dissent. His speaking presentation occurred as part of an international call to mark the weekend of December 7 as a display of unity and opposition to government repression.
I should like to trace the paradoxical discourse not only of the western doctrines, but also of Middle-Eastern contexts, to show the contrary relations between dominant readings/interpretations and the volition and power which resistance and refusal can garner for its benefit. I will shortly speak about the Shari-ah. The Shari’ah is the body of Islamic law that was developed by religious scholars (Ulama’s) after the death of the Prophet Muhammad.
Industrial Society Destroys Mind and Environment
Dear Group Members,
I want to share my article with you. This is about the link between Mind and Social / Environmental-Issues. The fast-paced, consumerist lifestyle of Industrial Society is causing exponential rise in psychological problems besides destroying the environment. All issues are interlinked. Our Minds cannot be peaceful when attention-spans are down to nanoseconds, microseconds and milliseconds. Our Minds cannot be peaceful if we destroy Nature.

In the race against time to prevent the Canadian population of spotted owls from going extinct, biologist Andy Miller reports that this is one of the strangest things he's seen. "Why would a logging company purposefully fall trees in an area with a documented nest of one of Canada's most endangered species?"
House Votes to Allow Drilling in Alaska Refuge
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Citing the public outcry over $3-a-gallon gasoline and
America's heavy reliance on foreign oil, the House on Thursday voted to open
an Alaska wildlife refuge to oil drilling, knowing the prospects for Senate
approval were slim.
Green is the New Red: How the Bush Administration is Using Terror Laws to Prosecute Nonviolent Environmental Activists
In March, six green activists found themselves among the first victims of a new front in the War on Terror...It's not enough to cowardly distance ourselves from the "eco-terrorists," as many did during the Red Scare. That won't protect us. It's up to progressive activists to stand with the defendants, and say loud and clear that "terrorism" can't be batted around in political games.
Some will support (Earth Liberation Front) methods while others will strongly denounce them. In order to make such a determination, however, we need facts not hyperbole...Whether we agree or disagree with the ELF mission and/or tactics, at least (one media outlet) offered a more rounded description of the leaderless group. In an informed society, this is precisely how citizens can form educated opinions.

Polar bears and hippos are among more than 16,000 species of animals and plants threatened with global extinction, the World Conservation Union said Tuesday.
A jury today returned guilty verdicts for six activists who have tirelessly campaigned against the cruelty at Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS), a product-testing facility that kills 500 animals daily testing pesticides, household products, and pharmaceuticals. Five undercover investigations at the lab have documented such abuse by employees as punching four-month-old puppies in the face, simulating sex with animals, and dissecting a still-living non-human primate.
The U.S. government excels at dropping down on people's lives like a ton of bricks, and of course that's what it has done with this witch hunt. In the last couple months, it has incarcerated or otherwise hammered many amazing radicals, thereby traumatizing them, their friends, families, and movements. Federal prosecutors have also set a new standard for potential sabotage penalties: life in jail plus, oh, say, about 300 years.
