The Olympics always want their pound of flesh...BUT THERE are some residents who think that the people of [Chicago] have given quite enough skin, not to mention blood and tears. A group of activists calling themselves Black People Against Police Torture (BPAPT) wants to keep the Olympics out...The group argues, "A city which tortures its own residents does not deserve the Olympics"...[I]f Chicago were in fact "honored" with the Olympics, a resurgence of police repression would surely follow.

"No Olympics on stolen Native land" has become the battle cry for Indigenous resistance to the games; resistance that has found allies in those angered by what they call the devastating social and environmental implications of the Olympics, and has drawn its resonance from the fact that much of BC remains unceded Indigenous territory.

The man charged with mischief for defacing the Olympic countdown clock in downtown Vancouver in March has admitted he did it, saying he was inspired by jailed environmental protester Betty Krawczyk.

The police raided the former office of the Anti-Poverty Committee Thursday night, under the pretext of looking for the Olympic flag that was stolen by the Native Warrior Society nearly a month ago.

The office, located in a DERA building, has not been used by the APC for more than a year. The police arrived at 11:15pm with a search warrant, and left empty-handed about an hour later.

Vancouver – Pivot Legal Society and a coalition of advocacy groups won two low-income housing eviction- and rent-increase cases for residents of one of the Downtown Eastside’s low-income hotels today.

Two residents of the Golden Crown Hotel received notice today from the Residential Tenancy Branch that their illegal eviction notices and rent increases linked to the Olympics were set aside.

Warriors Take Flag In the early morning hours of Tuesday, March 6th, 2007, we removed the Olympic Flag from its flag-pole at Vancouver City Hall. We pried open the access panel on the pole with a crowbar, using a bolt-cutter, cut the metal cable/halyard inside, causing the flag to fall to the ground.

At some point in the last 24 hours the Olympic flag that once flew over city hall was destroyed. The Anti-Poverty Committee takes great inspiration in this act and applauds those involved in knocking the games down a peg..."People are angry and they are gonna get a lot more so. There are only so many homeless people you can walk over before you say enough is enough".

The Native Youth Movement is calling for a Boycott and Cancellation of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. The Games are scheduled to take place on un-surrendered Native Land from February 12-27, 2010. The Olympic Games represent a continued history of colonization and Genocide.

The deafening silence in [Vancouver] from the academic community, labour unions, elected leaders, the Board of Trade and even most non-profit societies is not only pathetic, but an unfortunate characteristic of this passive, intellectually dead city that lacks compassion. This is a city where people talk about progressive politics and social change, but don't really do anything about it.
